Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring

Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring

Take Action to Improve Heart Health

According to the American Heart Association, nearly half (46%) of adults have high blood pressure in this country. High blood pressure is a key, modifiable, risk factor for both heart disease and stroke, which are two of the leading causes of death in the United States.

In response to this critical health care issue, the YMCA’s Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring program is designed to help adults with hypertension lower and manage their blood pressure.

Program Description:

  • Evidence-based program
  • 16-week
  • 2 personalized consultations per month with a Healthy Heart Ambassador
  • Monthly nutrition and cardiovascular health learning sessions
  • Develop the habit of routinely self-monitoring blood pressure
  • Gain awareness of triggers that elevate blood pressure

Goals:

  • Reduction in blood pressure
  • Better blood pressure management
  • Increased awareness of triggers that elevate blood pressure
  • Enhanced knowledge to develop healthier eating habits

Eligibility:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be diagnosed with high blood pressure
  • Not have experienced a recent cardiac event
  • Not have atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias
  • Not be at risk for lymphedema

Cost:

  • Free to members
  • $50 nonmembers
