Stroke Development introduces breaststroke and butterfly and reinforces water safety through treading water and sidestroke. Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity.

Stroke Mechanics refines stroke technique on all major competitive strokes including starts, turns and increases endurance. Encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle. Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity.

Participants may only sign up for 1 session per child. Registration for multiple sessions will be refunded and taken off the roster. This is to ensure other children have a chance to get into our swim lesson program! thank you for your understanding!

Each class is 30 minutes. 7 sessions total.

Stroke Introduction Level 4 at City Center

Introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and rinforces water safety through  treading water and elementary backstroke. Students develop endurance to swim continuous 25 yards, to use rotary breathing with front crawl and to tread using breaststroke and scissors kick.

Water Acclimation & Movement Level 1&2 at City Center

Water Acclimation is the first stage of swim lessons and focuses on skills for beginners. In Water Acclimation, students are introduced to the pool and develop safe water habits in a fun and encouraging environment. Students become comfortable with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit a body of water in the event they fall in. This introductory stage builds the foundation for the child’s future progress in swimming.

Water movement encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently.

Students will learn:

* Swim, float, swim – sequencing front glide, roll, back float, and exit.

* Jump, push, turn, grab

Participants may only sign up for 1 session per child. Registration for multiple sessions will be refunded and taken off the roster. This is to ensure other children have a chance to get into our swim lesson program! thank you for your understanding!

Make-ups will only be given for classes missed due to holidays and if the Y has to cancel a class. Make-ups must be done during the session the participant is currently registered for. Classes missed due to inclement weather will not be made up or given a credit.

If the YMCA holds class but your child is absent due to illness, you will need to provide a doctor’s note to Tammy Shore (Aquatic Director) to schedule a make-up during your currently enrolled session.
